PURBACHAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER-COMPETITION ENTRY

THE PICC (PURBACHAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER) STANDS AS A BEACON OF ARCHITECTURAL EXCELLENCE, BORN FROM THE CRUCIBLE OF A NATIONAL COMPETITION METICULOUSLY ORCHESTRATED BY RAJUK (RAJDHANI UNNAYAN KATRIPAKKHA) AND IAB (INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS BANGLADESH). FROM A POOL OF 57 ENTRIES, THIS PROJECT EMERGED, NURTURED BY A TEAM PROPELLED BY UNWAVERING DEDICATION. DELVING INTO THE ESSENCE OF ITS SURROUNDINGS, THIS ENDEAVOR EMBODIES DESIGN PRINCIPLES THAT RESONATE WITH THE RICH TAPESTRY OF BANGLADESH'S TRADITION, NATURE, AND SUSTAINABILITY ETHOS.

AT ITS HEART LIES A COURTYARD, ANCHORED BY THE MAJESTIC PRESENCE OF A BANYAN TREE, FORMING A VIBRANT PUBLIC PLAZA EMBRACING THE WATERSCAPE TO THE SOUTH. YET, IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT AESTHETICS; THIS ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL BOASTS INNOVATIONS SPANNING MATERIALS, STRUCTURE, AND ECOLOGICAL INTEGRATION, CRAFTING SPACES THAT TRANSCEND THE ORDINARY.

WITHIN ITS EXPANSIVE 30,000 SQM EXPANSE, DISTRIBUTED ACROSS FOUR FLOORS WITH THREE LAYERS OF PARKING, THE PICC ACCOMMODATES A DIVERSE ARRAY OF FUNCTIONAL ZONES. FROM THE GRANDEUR OF THE EXHIBITION HALL TO THE INTIMACY OF WORKSHOPS, EVERY SPACE IS METICULOUSLY CURATED TO FOSTER CREATIVITY AND INTERACTION.

VENTURING OUTSIDE, THE PLAZA'S PERIMETER IS GRACED BY 10 FEET THICK MUD WALLS, NOT MERELY STATIC BOUNDARIES BUT DYNAMIC CANVASES FOR THE EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURES AND PUBLIC EVENTS. MEANWHILE, BENEATH THE CANOPY OF A GREEN-ROOF PLAZA ADORNED WITH SOLAR PANELS, SUSTAINABILITY INTERTWINES SEAMLESSLY WITH ARCHITECTURAL ELEGANCE.

IN ITS ENTIRETY, THE PICC STANDS AS A TESTAMENT TO HARMONIOUS COEXISTENCE, SEAMLESSLY MELDING WITH ITS ENVIRONMENT, RESPONDING TO THE CLIMATE, AND EMBRACING THE NEEDS OF ITS INHABITANTS. IT'S MORE THAN A CONVENTION CENTER; IT'S A LIVING, BREATHING TESTAMENT TO THE ENDURING BOND BETWEEN HUMANITY AND NATURE.
